As horizon is the most prominent “landmark” of the site, museum walls are oriented perpendicularly towards the sea to preserve the horizon. The walls frame both interior and exterior space into colliding perspectives, the same way as the collision lines in Cubism. The proposal tempts to create an image of reverse landscape that drapes across the Baltic Sea, as a way to response to the topographical variations above and below the horizon. The galleries on top form a new horizon suspending in the air. The translucency in the volume resembles the Finnish landscape of the ice. The architecture breathes horizontally, like a vessel of time. While Nordic art emphasizes a “finite space” for time to oscillate back and forth, the proposal attempts to create an architecture finite space to allow the interior and exterior space to oscillate, as a way to echo with the purity in culture context.
